Your mindset is your most powerful tool!
Controlling your mindset allows you to channel your actions, thoughts and emotions, by learning to take control you will experience life in a whole new way.
The state that your mind is in, controls your whole life! It controls how you perceives things, how you react in situations, how your interpret other people’s actions, what you expect from situations, your thoughts, your decisions… EVERYTHING!
Now, yes your mindset controls everything, but you have to remember it is you who controls your mindset, and it is you who dictates whether that is going to be positive or negative.
Fixed Mindset
Everything in your life up to this point has had some impact on your mindset, your upbringing, the neighbourhood you grew up in, your school experience, that weird woman you met once on a night out etc etc absolutely everything in your life impacts your mindset in a way in which it regurgitates these experiences when your brain is assessing, interpreting and then reacting to or responding to anything you are facing. This is your fixed mindset.
Your thought are generally what create your reality, therefore when you draw from a positive mindset you in turn creat a positive reality and unfortunately the same is true for negative mindsets. Therefore you must always have a growth mindset.
Now I know your probably thinking, this is all great but how the f do I control my mindset? And what the hell is a growth mindset, well …
Now I’m not taking credit for this because honestly it took me a long time to get here and I appreciate all the support that I found on my way, so here is something I read on [elleisforlove.com] that I use and works for me when I need to reassess and take control and grow my mindset so I am sharing it with you!
- Think of a recent situation that you found challenging and/or discouraging:
- What happened?
- Why did you feel discouraged/frustrated?
- What’s a more empowering way that you can see that situation where you feel more positive and encouraged?
- Can you learn something from it?
- Can you perhaps change your approach?
- Is this an opportunity to grow and learn something new?
When you can answer all of the above, your mindset will change about the whole situation, now this could be anything from getting frustrated with an idiot client at work to becoming disappointed that your didn’t make the gym again today, or annoyed that you are that extra slice of pizza.
It’s all about seeing things from a different perspective and allowing that to impact you positively and help you grow your mindset. Below you’ll see a little chart that I found [beenke.com] that basically sums up what I mean.

So a little personal example of this ;
I live around 35 min walk from the gym, but usually I cycle it in around 10. I have an electric bike, because the route to the gym is the same I take to work and there’s a bitch of steep hill that I would probably die if I free cycled up, honestly even with the e-bike I’m usually out of breath! So I’ve been very motivated to go to the gym the last few days and yesterday I decided to go (pouring rain outside) freezing cold, I hop on my bike, by the time I get to the hill I’m drenched to my undies, I start the climb the BAM battery dead! Now I’m half way between my house and the gym, I am soaked, I am frozen, my battery is completely dead! Now I’m pissed off, at myself for choosing to go in the rain, for not wearing a waterproof jacket, for being soaked, for not charging my battery and for not having a license so I could just drive there. I am caught between turning around and cycling back up hill to go home, or cycling this monstrous hill soaked and grumpy, on a 35kg bike that has a dead battery and just going to the gym. Now my fixed mindset went through every single one of the above mentioned fixed mindset things on the chart above… then I though.. “What’s a more empowering way that you can see that situation where you feel more positive and encouraged?” And I thought of the feeling I get after the gym, like a weight had been lifted of my chest, and how much better I would feel the rest of the day, I thought of how I felt that morning when I stepped on the scale and saw what I didn’t like. I thought of every single silver lining for me being stood soaking wet at the bottom of that hill with a dead ebike and I suddenly everything changed, it didn’t matter that I was wet, that my bike was dead that I was only half way there, I was making the effort to actually go, I had decided not to feel how I felt that morning looking at the scale and where I was right now meant that I was taking a step in the right direction, I was committed and no bike or rain could stop me now. So I pushed my bike up the hill, I got back on at the top went to the gym, and the ride bike down the hill felt a million times better than it usually does.
I TOOK CONTROL of my mindset in that moment, I CHOSE to draw from the positives and negatives to dictate how I felt and I made a great decision, and now when I feel demotivated to go to the gym I think, if I made it to the gym that day, heck why the f can’t I make it today, and it’s a great feeling!
